Efficiency
The building of railroads were a major improvement in trade across the United States. Now, larger amounts of products were able to be shipped than ever before. The poster below shows an advertisement made by the grand opening of the pacific railroad. They want to advertise to show how they can export materials in bulk and for cheap. They are starting the railroad business. The ability for products to be shipped in huge bulk enabled them to be cheaper and be more affordable for customer. Numerous of farmers from Minnesota complained about the cost of travel. When they exported material from Minnesota to Chicago it was twice as much money than from a linking city to Chicago that was a longer haul. No complaints could be made considering the fact that their product was being better shipped and sold than before. It was still less expensive than horse and buggy, faster, and more reliable. The amount of product and cost positively affected trade between the east and west.
